Dua for the First of Safar

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ الْعَلِيمُ الْخَالِقُ الرَّازِقُ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ الْقَدِيرُ الْمُقْتَدِرُ الْقَادِرُ

Allahumma Anta Allahu al-Alimu al-Khaliqu al-Raziq, wa Anta Allahu al-Qadiru al-Muqtadiru al-Qadir.

O Allah! You are Allah, the All-Knowing, the Creator, the Provider; and You are Allah, the Destiner, the Omnipotent, the Powerful.

أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

As’aluka an tusalliya ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammad.

I ask You to bestow blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

وَ أَنْ تُعَرِّفَنَا بَرَكَةَ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ وَ يُمْنَهُ وَ تَرْزُقَنَا خَيْرَهُ وَ تَصْرِفَ عَنَّا شَرَّهُ وَ تَجْعَلَنَا فِيهِ مِنَ الْفَائِزِينَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Wa an tu’arrifana barakata hadha al-shahri wa yumnahu, wa tarzuqana khayrahu, wa tasrifa ‘anna sharrahu, wa taj’alana fihi mina al-fa’izin. Ya Arhama al-Rahimin.

And make us know the blessings of this month and its good omens, grant us its goodness, divert its evil away from us, and make us among the successful ones during it, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اجْعَلْنِي أَكْثَرَ الْعَالَمِينَ قَدْراً وَ أَبْسَطَهُمْ عِلْماً وَ أَعَزَّهُمْ عِنْدَكَ مَقَاماً وَ أَكْرَمَهُمْ لَدَيْكَ جَاهاً

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammad, waj’alni akthara al-‘alamina qadran, wa absatahum ‘ilman, wa a’azzahum ‘indaka maqaman, wa akramahum ladayka jahan.

O Allah, bestow blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and make me the highest in rank among all beings, the most vast in knowledge, the most honorable in station before You, and the most esteemed in status in Your presence.

كَمَا خَلَقْتَ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ وَ نَفَخْتَ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِكَ وَ أَسْجَدْتَ لَهُ مَلَائِكَتَكَ وَ عَلَّمْتَهُ الْأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا

Kama khalaqta Adama ‘alayhi al-salam min turabin, wa nafakhta fihi min ruhika, wa asjadta lahu mala’ikataka, wa ‘allamtahu al-asma’a kullaha.

Just as You created Adam, peace be upon him, from clay, blew into him from Your Spirit, caused Your angels to prostrate to him, and taught him all the names.

وَ جَعَلْتَهُ خَلِيفَةً فِي أَرْضِكَ وَ سَخَّرْتَ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعاً مِنْكَ وَ كَرَّمْتَ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ وَ فَضَّلْتَهُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ

Wa ja’altahu khalifatan fi ardika, wa sakhkharta lahu ma fi al-samawati wa ma fi al-ardi jamian minka, wa karramta dhurriyyatahu wa faddaltahum ‘ala al-‘alamin.

And You made him a vicegerent on Your earth, subjected for him all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth as a gift from You, honored his descendants, and preferred them over all the worlds.

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَ مِنْكَ النَّعْمَاءُ وَ لَكَ الشُّكْرُ دَائِماً يَا لَطِيفاً بِعِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَا سَمِيعَ الدُّعَاءِ ارْحَمْ وَ اسْتَجِبْ

Allahumma laka al-hamdu wa minka al-na’ma’u wa laka al-shukru da’iman. Ya Latifan bi’ibadihi al-mu’minin, ya Sami’a al-du’a’, irham wastajib.

O Allah, to You belongs all praise, from You come all blessings, and to You is eternal gratitude. O You who are Kind to Your believing servants, O Hearer of supplication, have mercy and answer.

فَإِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ وَ لَا أَعْلَمُ وَ تَقْدِرُ وَ لَا أَقْدِرُ وَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ فَاجْعَلْ قَلْبِي وَ عَزْمِي وَ هِمَّتِي وَ نِيَّتِي وَفْقَ مَشِيَّتِكَ وَ أَسِيرَ أَمْرِكَ

Fa-innaka ta’lamu wa la a’lamu, wa taqdiru wa la aqdiru, wa Anta ‘Allamu al-ghuyub. Faj’al qalbi wa ‘azmi wa himmati wa niyyati wafqa mashiyyatika wa asira amrik.

For You know and I do not know; You have the power and I do not have the power; and You are the Knower of all that is hidden. So make my heart, my determination, my aspiration, and my intention in accordance with Your will and in submission to Your command.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لَا أَقْدِرُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِكَ وَ لَا أَقْدِرُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ بَعْدَ إِذْنِكَ خَوْفاً مِنْ إِعْرَاضِكَ وَ غَضَبِكَ فَكُنْ حَسْبِي يَا مَنْ هُوَ الْحَسْبُ وَ الْوَكِيلُ وَ النَّصِيرُ

Allahumma inni la aqdiru an as’alaka illa bi-idhnika, wa la aqdiru an as’alaka ba’da idhnika khawfan min i’radika wa ghadabik. Fakun hasbi ya man huwa al-hasbu wal-wakilu wal-nasir.

O Allah, I am not able to ask You except by Your permission, and I am not able to [cease to] ask You after Your permission, out of fear of Your turning away and Your wrath. So be enough for me, O He who is the Sufficient One, the Guardian, and the Helper.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى جَمِيعِ مَلَائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَ أَنْبِيَائِكَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَ عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammad, wa ‘ala jami’i mala’ikatika al-muqarrabin, wa anbiya’ika al-mursalin, wa ‘ibadika al-salihin. Ya Arhama al-Rahimin.

O Allah, bestow blessings upon Muhammad, the family of Muhammad, all Your angels brought near, Your sent prophets, and Your righteous servants, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

يَا جَالِيَ الْأَحْزَانِ يَا مُوَسِّعَ الضِّيقِ يَا مَنْ هُوَ أَوْلَى بِخَلْقِهِ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَ يَا فَاطِرَ تِلْكَ الْأَنْفُسِ أَنْفُساً وَ مُلْهِمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَ التَّقْوَى

Ya Jaliya al-ahzan, ya muwassi’a al-diq, ya man huwa awla bi-khalqihi min anfusihim, wa ya fatira tilka al-anfusi anfusan, wa mulhimaha fujuraha wal-taqwa.

O Reliever of sorrows, O Expander of straits, O He who is closer to His creation than they are to themselves, O Creator of these souls, and the Inspirer of their wickedness and their piety.

نَزَلَ بِي يَا فَارِجَ الْهَمِّ هَمٌّ ضِقْتُ بِهِ ذَرْعاً وَ صَدْراً حَتَّى خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَكُونَ عَرَضَتْ فِتْنَةٌ

Nazala bi ya farija al-hammi hamman diqtu bihi dhar’an wa sadran hatta khashitu an yakuna ‘aradat fitnah.

A grief has befallen me, O Remover of anxiety—a grief by which I have become constrained and tight-chested, to the point that I feared a trial had occurred.

يَا اللَّهُ فَبِذِكْرِكَ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ قَلِّبْ قَلْبِي مِنَ الْهُمُومِ إِلَى الرَّوْحِ وَ الدَّعَةِ

Ya Allah, fa-bi-dhikrika tatma’innu al-qulub. Salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammad, wa qallib qalbi mina al-humumi ila al-rawhi wal-da’ah.

O Allah, for it is in Your remembrance that hearts find peace. Bestow blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and turn my heart from anxieties toward comfort and tranquility.

وَ لَا تَشْغَلْنِي عَنْ ذِكْرِكَ بِتَرْكِكَ مَا بِي مِنَ الْهُمُومِ إِنِّي إِلَيْكَ مُتَضَرِّعٌ

Wa la tashghalni ‘an dhikrika bi-tarkika ma bi mina al-humum, inni ilayka mutadarri’.

Do not preoccupy me from Your remembrance by leaving me in my anxieties; indeed, I am pleading to You.

أَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الَّذِي لَا يُوصَفُ إِلَّا بِالْمَعْنَى بِكِتْمَانِكَ فِي غُيُوبِكَ ذِي النُّورِ وَ أَنْ تُجْلِيَ بِحَقِّهِ أَحْزَانِي وَ تَشْرَحَ بِهِ صَدْرِي بِكُشُوطِ الْهَمِّ يَا كَرِيمُ

As’aluka bi-ismika alladhi la yusafu illa bil-ma’na bi-kitmanika fi ghuyubika dhi al-nur. Wa an tujliya bi-haqqihi ahzani, wa tashraha bihi sadri bi-kushuti al-hammi, ya Karim.

I ask You by Your Name that cannot be described except by its meaning, hidden by You in Your unseen realms, the possessor of Light. And I ask You to remove my sorrows by its right, and expand my chest through it by the removal of anxiety, O All-Generous.
