Taqibat After Fajr

Origin: Mafatih al-Jinan (Shaykh Abbas al-Qummi), chapter on the ta'qibat after the obligatory prayers, drawing on Misbah al-Mutahajjid of Shaykh al-Tusi and al-Kaf'ami's Misbah; each recitation is traced there to the Imam who taught it.

Source: Arabic text, translation and transliteration from duas.org, which also hosts the recitation.

Categories: Morning, After Prayer

After the Fajr prayer, as given in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, say:

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

wahdini lima ukhtulifa fihi mina alhaqqi bi-idhnika

and guide me, by Your permission, to the right about which discrepancies have taken place.

innaka tahdi man tasha'u ila siratin mustaqimin

Truly, You guide him whom You wish to a straight path.

Say this ten times:

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

al-awsya'i alrradina almardiyyina

the consenting and pleased Successors,

bi-afdali salawatika

with the best of Your blessings,

wa barik `alayhim bi-afdali barakatika

and confer upon them the best of your favors.

walssalamu `alayhim

Peace be upon them

wa `ala arwahihim wa ajsadihim

and their souls and bodies.

wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu

Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon them.

Ask Allah to let you live and die as Imam Ali (a) lived and died:

allahumma ahyini `ala ma ahiyayta `alayhi `aliyya bna abi talibin

O Allah, (please) make me live carrying the conducts on which You made Ali the son of Abu Talib live

wa amitni `ala ma mata `alayhi `aliyyu bnu abi talibin `alayhi alssalamu

and make me die on the principles for which Ali the son of Abu Talib—peace be upon him—died.

Say each of these ten times (100 times is also mentioned):

astaghfiru allaha wa atubu ilayhi

(i) I pray the forgiveness of Allah and I repent before Him.

as'alu allaha al`afiyata

(ii) I beseech Allah for good health.

astajiru billahi mina alnnari

(iii) I seek Allah’s protection against Hellfire.

wa as'aluhu aljannata

(iv) I ask Him for Paradise.

as'alu allaha alhura al`ina

(v) I ask Allah for the Paradisiacal Women.

la ilaha illa allahu almaliku alhaqqu almubinu

(vi) There is no god save Allah the King and evident Truth.

Then recite Surah al-Tawhid ten times, and say each of these ten times as well:

salla allahu `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

(viii) May Allah send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.

(ix) All glory be to Allah, all praise be to Allah, there is no god save Allah Allah is the Greatest and there is neither might nor power save with Allah, the All-high and All-great.

(x) Only that which Allah wills shall come to pass and there is neither might nor power save with Allah, the All-high and All-great.

Say this ten times after the Fajr prayer, for protection from blindness, insanity, leprosy and poverty:

subhana allahi al`azimi wa bihamdihi

All glory be to Allah, the All-great and in praise of Him;

and there is neither might nor power save with Allah, the All-high and All-great.

Say this seven times after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers; Imam al-Sadiq (a) said it protects you from seventy kinds of misfortune:

bismi allahi alrrahmani alrrahimi

In the Name of Allah the All-compassionate, the All-merciful;

there is neither might nor power save with Allah, the All-high and All-great.

For the good of this world and the next, or for aching eyes, Imam al-Sadiq (a) taught saying this after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers:

allahumma inni as'aluka bihaqqi muhammadin wa ali muhammadin `alayka

O Allah, I do beseech You, in the name of the right of Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad that is incumbent upon You

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

to send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

waj`al alnnura fi basari

and to give light to my insight,

walbasirata fi dini

make me discerning in my religion,

wal-yaqina fi qalbi

have conviction in my heart,

wal-ikhlasa fi `amali

sincerity in my deeds,

walssalamata fi nafsi

safety in my self,

walssa`ata fi rizqi

vastness in my sustenance,

walshshukra laka abadan ma abqaytani

and perpetual thankfulness for You as long as you keep me alive.

Shaykh Baha'i writes that after the Fajr prayer you should hold your beard with your right hand, raise your left hand towards the sky, and say this seven times:

“O’ Lord of Muhammad and his Holy Progeny, send mercy upon Muhammad and his Holy Progeny, and show haste in the relief of Muhammad and his Holy Progeny.”

Al-Majlisi reports that after the Fajr prayer, before you speak to anyone, you should say:

Imam al-Ridha (a) advised saying this 41 times; whoever says it with humility and full attention will never be in need of anyone:

YAA A’ZEEZO.

O Mighty.

Imam al-Kazim (a) told a man whose affairs never came right to say this ten times after the Fajr prayer:

Before the Fajr prayer, pray the two rak'as of the nafila of Fajr; after them the Prophet (s) would lie on his right side, his right hand under his right cheek, and say:

istamsakto be-u’rwatil laahil wusqal latee lan fesaama lahaa was ta’samto be-hablil laahil mateen

I have laid hold of the firmest handle of Allah which shall not break off and I have clung to the strong rope of Allah.

a-o’ozo billaahe min fawratil a’rabe wal a’jame wa a-o’ozo billaahe min sharre shayaateenil inse wal ji

I seek refuge with Allah from the outbursts of the Arab and the non-Arab, and I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of the devils from the man and jinn.

tawakkalto a’lal laahe talabto haajatee menal laahe hasbeyal laaho wa ne’mal wakeelo laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaahil a’liyyil a’zeeme.

I trust in Allah. I seek the fulfillment of my needs from Allah. Allah is enough for me and He is the best Procurator, there is no power or might but by (the will of) Allah the Sublime, the Mighty.

At dawn, before the Fajr prayer, recite this supplication of Imam Ali (a), from al-Sahifa al-Alawiyya:

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

Allahumma inna dhunoobi wa in kanat qatee'atan

O Allah, even though my sins may be numerous,

I never intended separation from You, nor do I claim innocence before You.

I do not deny my flaws, and I am unable to complete my repentance due to my weakness.

Wa qad ji'tu atlubu 'afwaka wa waseelatee ilayka karamuka

And I have come seeking Your forgiveness, with Your generosity as my means to You.

So bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and honor me with Your forgiveness, O Most Merciful of the merciful

After the nafila of Fajr, recite this dua of Imam al-Sadiq (a):

Astamsiku bi-ʿurwat Allāh al-wuthqā,

I hold firmly to the trustworthy handhold of Allah,

Allatī lā infiṣām lahā,

That will never break,

Wa-ʿtaṣamtu bi-ḥabl Allāh al-matīn,

And I seek refuge with the strong rope of Allah,

Aʿūdhu bi-llāh min sharri shayāṭīn al-insi wa al-jinn,

I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of the devils among humans and jinn,

Aʿūdhu bi-llāh min sharri fasaqah al-ʿarab wa al-ʿajam,

I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of the immoral among Arabs and non-Arabs,

Ḥasbiy Allāh,

Allah is sufficient for me,

Tawakkaltu ʿalā Allāh,

I rely on Allah,

Alja’tu ẓahrī ilā Allāh,

I place my back towards Allah,

Ṭalabtu ḥājatī min Allāh,

I seek my need from Allah,

Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāh.

There is no power and no strength except with Allah.

Allāhumma ajʿal lī nūran fī qalbī,

O Allah, place light in my heart,

Wa nūran fī baṣarī,

And light in my sight,

Wa nūran fī samʿī,

And light in my hearing,

Wa nūran fī lisānī,

And light on my tongue,

Wa nūran fī basharī,

And light in my skin,

Wa nūran fī shaʿrī,

And light in my hair,

Wa nūran fī laḥmī,

And light in my flesh,

Wa nūran fī damī,

And light in my blood,

Wa nūran fī ʿiẓāmī,

And light in my bones,

Wa nūran fī ʿaṣabī,

And light in my nerves,

Wa nūran bayna yadayya,

And light before me,

Wa nūran min khalfī,

And light behind me,

Wa nūran ʿan yamīnī,

And light to my right,

Wa nūran ʿan shimālī,

And light to my left,

Wa nūran min fawqī,

And light above me,

Wa nūran min taḥtī,

And light beneath me,

Allāhumma aʿẓim lī nūran.

O Allah, make my light great.

Then recite these verses from the end of Surah Al Imran:

Inna fī khalq as-samāwāt wa al-arḍ,

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth,

Wakhtilāf al-layl wa an-nahār la-āyāt li-ulī al-albāb (190),

And the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding (190),

Alladhīna yadhkurūna Allāh qiyāman wa quʿūdan,

Who remember Allah while standing or sitting,

Wa ʿalā junūbihim,

And [lying] on their sides,

Wa yatafakkarūna fī khalq as-samāwāt wa al-arḍ,

And give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth,

Rabbana mā khalaqta hādhā bāṭilan,

[Saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly;

Subḥānak faqinā ʿadhāb an-nār (191),

Exalted are You [above such a thing]; protect us from the punishment of the Fire (191),

Rabbana innaka man tudkhil an-nār faqad akhzaytah,

Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him,

Wa mā li-ẓẓālimīn min anṣār (192),

And for the wrongdoers there are no helpers (192),

Rabbana innanā samiʿnā munādiyan yunādī lil-īmān an āminū bi-rabbikum,

Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,'

Fa-āmannā, rabbana fa-aghfir lanā dhunūbanā,

And we have believed, so forgive us our sins,

Wa kaffir ʿannā sayyiʾātinā,

And remove from us our misdeeds,

Wa tawaffanā maʿa al-abrār (193),

And cause us to die with the righteous (193),

Rabbana wa ātinā mā waʿadttanā ʿalā rusulik,

Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers,

Wa lā tukhzinā yawm al-qiyāmah,

And do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection,

Innaka lā tukhlif al-mīʿād (194).

Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise (194).

Then say this three times:

Subḥān rabbi aṣ-ṣabāḥ,

Glory be to the Lord of the morning,

Fāliqi al-iṣbāḥ,

The Cleaver of the dawn,

Wa jāʿili al-layl sakanan,

And the Maker of the night for rest,

Wa ash-shamsi wa al-qamar ḥusbānā.

And the sun and the moon for reckoning.

Then say:

Allāhumma ajʿal awwal yawmī hādhā ṣalāḥā,

O Allah, make the beginning of my day righteous,

Wa awsaṭahu najāḥā,

And its middle successful,

Wa ākhirahu falāḥā.

And its end prosperous.

Allāhumma wa man aṣbaḥa wa ḥājatuhu,

O Allah, whoever begins their day seeking their need,

Wa ṭalibatuhu ilā makhlūq,

And directs their request to a creature,

Fa-inna ḥājatī wa ṭalibatī ilayka waḥdaka,

Then indeed, my need and my request are directed to You alone,

Lā sharīk laka.

You have no partner.

Then recite Ayat al-Kursi, Surah al-Falaq and Surah al-Nas, and after them say this 100 times:

Sayyid Muhammad al-Sultanabadi taught three practices for relief from poverty and grief. First, after the Fajr prayer, put your hand on your chest and say this seventy times:

Ya fattahu

O Opener

Second, say this regularly; the Prophet (s) taught it to a companion suffering from illness and poverty, who was soon free of both:

la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahi

There is neither might nor power except with Allah.

tawakkaltu `ala alhayyi alladhi la yamutu

I put my trust in the Ever-living (Lord) Who never dies.

walhamdu lillahi alladhi lam yattakhidh waladan

All praise is due to Allah, Who has not taken a wife or a son

wa lam yakun lahu sharikun fi almulki

and Who has not have a partner in the kingdom,

wa lam yakun lahu waliyyun min aldhdhulli

and Who has not have a helper to save Him from disgrace;

wa kabbirhu takbiran

and magnify Him with all magnificence.

Third, say this after the Fajr prayer; Imam al-Ridha (a) said that whoever does will find every need made easy:

bismillahi

In the Name of Allah.

wa salla allahu `ala muhammadin wa alihi

May Allah bless Muhammad and his Household.

wa ufawwidu amri ila allahi

“I confide my cause to Allah.

inna allaha basirun bil`ibadi

Surely, Allah is Seer of His slaves.

fawaqahu allahu sayyi'ati ma makaru

So, Allah warded off from him the evils which they plotted.”

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

“There is no god save You. Be You Glorified!

inni kuntu mina alzzalimina

Lo! I have been a wrongdoer.

fastajabna lahu wa najjaynahu mina alghammi

Then, We heard his prayer and saved him from the anguish.

wa kadhalika nunji almu'minina

Thus do We save the believers.”

So, they returned with grace and favor from Allah,

and no harm touched them.”

There is neither strength nor power save with Allah.

Only that which Allah, but not people, wills shall come to pass.

ma sha'a allahu wa in kariha alnnasu

Only that which Allah wills shall come to pass even if people detest it.

Sufficient for me is He Who has been always sufficient for me.

“Allah suffices me. There is no god save Him.

In Him have I put my trust,

wa huwa rabbu al`arshi al`azimi

and He is the Lord of the Tremendous Throne.”

At dawn, remember these four blessings; the Prophet (s) feared they may be taken from anyone who forgets them:

alh'amdu lillaahil lad'ee a'rrafnee nafsahoo wa lam yatruknee u'myaanal qalbi

All Praise to Allah who made Himself known to me & did not make me blind hearted

alh'amdu lillaahil lad'ee ja-a'lanee min ummati muh'ammadin s'allallaahu a'layji wa aalihee wa sallam

All Praise to Allah who included me among the followers of Muhammad (s)

alh'amdu lillaahil lad'ee ja-a'la rizqee fee yadihee wa lam yaj-a'lhu fee aydin naasi

All Praise to Allah who has ordained my sustenance to be in HIS own hands & not in the hands of human beings

alh'amdu lillaahil lad'ee satara u'yoobee wa lam yafz'ah'nee baynan naasi

All Praise to Allah who has covered my sins & shortcomings & did not degrade me in the eyes of Human beings

This supplication of Fatima al-Zahra (a) is said ten times after the Fajr prayer and ten times after the Maghrib prayer, for protection from every devil and every evil:

laa elaaha illal laaho wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul mulko wa lahul hamdo, yohyee wa yomeeto, be-yadehil khayro, wa howa a’laa kulle shay-in qadeer.

There is no god, except Allah, the one, there is no partner for Him. For Him is the kingdom and for Him is the praise. He enlivens and gives death, in His hands is the good. And He is powerful over everything.

This supplication of Amir al-Mu'minin (a), from the night of the Hijra, is said every morning and evening:

asbahtu allahumma mu`tasiman bidhimamika almani`i

O Allah, I have begun this morning seeking refuge with Your invulnerable security

alladhi la yutawalu wa la yuhawalu

that is neither touched nor caught

min sharri kulli ghashimin wa tariqin

against the evil of all oppressive and domineering ones

min sa'iri man khalaqta wa ma khalaqta

from among all Your animate and inanimate creatures

min khalqika alssamiti walnnatiqi

both the silent and the speaking;

fi junnatin min kulli makhufin

and being in protection against all terrifying things;

bilibasin sabighatin

and being in the complete garb

wa la'i ahli bayti nabiyyika

of my loyalty to the Household of Your Prophet;

muhtajiban min kulli qasidin li ila adhiyyatin

and veiling myself against all those who intend harm to me,

bijidarin hasinin

behind an impervious wall,

al-ikhlasi fil-i`tirafi bihaqqihim

which is my sincerity in the profession of their (Divinely commissioned) right (of leadership)

walttamassuki bihablihim

and my adherence to their Rope,

muqinan anna alhaqqa lahum wa ma`ahum

and bearing with certainty that the Right is theirs, with them,

wa fihim wa bihim

in them, and amid them.

uwali man walaw

I thus accede to those whom they accept

wa ujanibu man janabu

and depart those whom they depart.

fa-a`idhni allahumma bihim

O Allah, protect me, in the names of them,

min sharri kulli ma attaqihi ya `azimu

against the evil of all that which I fear, O All-great.

hajaztu al-a`adiya `anni bibadi`i alssamawati wal-ardi

I am restraining the enemies against me through the Originator of the heavens and the earth;

inna ja`alna min bayni aydihim saddan

“And We have set a bar before them

wa min khalfihim saddan

and a bar behind them,

fa-aghshaynahum fahum la yubsiruna

and (thus) have covered them so that they see not.”

Say each of these three times after the Fajr prayer; the Prophet (s) said them aloud for his companions to hear:

allaahumma asleh lee deeneyal lazee ja-a’ltahu lee i’smatan.

O Allah! Set right for me the religion that You have made a safeguard for me.

allaahumma asleh lee dunyaayal latee ja-a’lta feehaa ma-a’ashee.

O Allah! Set right for me this world that You have made me live in.

allaahumma asleh lee aakherateyal latee ja-a’lta elayhaa marja-e’e.

O Allah! Set right for me my hereafter that you have made my place of return.

allaahumma innee a-o’ozo berezaaka min sakhateka wa a-o’ozo be-a’fweka min niqmateka.

O Allah! I seek refuge with Your pleasure from Your ire and I seek refuge with Your forgiveness from Your wrath.

Then say:

allaahumma innee a-o’ozo beka laa maane-a’ lemaa a-a’tayta wa laa mo’teya lemaa mana’ta wa laa yanfa-o’ zal jadde minkaljaddo.

O Allah! I seek refuge with You – nobody can deny to the one whom You have given, and nobody can give to the one whom You have denied and nobody’s efforts come to fruition without You.

The Prophet (s) also said this after the Fajr prayer:

allaahumma matte’nee be-sam-e’e wa basaree waj a’lhomal waaresayne minnee wa arenee saaree min a’duwwee.

O Allah! Grant me the use of my hearing and sight and let them stay with me till my death and show me the destruction of my enemies.

Another supplication the Prophet (s) used to say after the Fajr prayer:

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-hammi wal-huzn

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief,

Wal-’ajzi wal-kasali wal-bukhli wal-jubn

And from inability, laziness, miserliness, and cowardice,

Wa dhal’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal

And from the burden of debt and being overpowered by men.

Wa bawaril-ayyami wal-ghaflati wadh-dhillah

And the ruin of days, and heedlessness, and humiliation.

Wal-qaswati wal-’aylati wal-maskanah

And from hardheartedness, poverty, and misery.

Wa a’udhu bika min nafsin la tashba’

And I seek refuge in You from a soul that is never satisfied,

And from a heart that does not humble itself, and an eye that does not weep (from Divine awe),

Wa min du’a’in la yusma’ wa min salatin la tanfa’

And from a prayer that is not heard, and a formal prayer that does not benefit.

Wa a’udhu bika min-imra’atin tushayyibuni qabla awana mashyibi

And I seek refuge in You from a woman who causes me to turn grey before my time,

Wa a’udhu bika min waladin yakunu ‘alayya ribba

And I seek refuge in You from a child who becomes a master (tyrant) over me,

Wa a’udhu bika min malin yakunu ‘alayya ‘adhaba

And I seek refuge in You from wealth that becomes a torment for me,

Wa a’udhu bika min sahibi khadi’ah

And I seek refuge in You from a deceitful companion,

In ra’a hasanatin dafanaha wa in ra’a sayyi’atan afshaha

Who, if he sees a good deed, conceals it, and if he sees an evil deed, spreads it.

O Allah, do not allow a wicked person to have any favor or influence over me.

A supplication for Imam al-Mahdi (a), to be recited regularly after the Fajr prayer:

Allahumma wa kun li-waliyyika fi khalqika waliyyan wa hafidha

O Allah, be for Your representative among Your creation a Guardian and a Protector,

Wa qa’idan wa nasiran hatta tuskinahu ardaka taw’a

And a Leader and a Helper, until You settle him in Your earth obediently,

Wa tumatti’ahu fiha tawila

And grant him long enjoyment within it.

Wa taj’alahu wa dhurriyyatahu fihal-aimmatal-warithin

And make him and his progeny therein the inheriting leaders.

Wajma’ lahu shamlahu, wa akmil lahu amrah

And gather for him his scattered affairs, and complete for him his matter,

Wa aslih lahu ra’iyyatahu, wa thabbit ruknah

And rectify for him his subjects, and strengthen his pillar.

Wa afrighis-sabra minka ‘alayhi hatta yantaqim

And pour patience from You upon him until he takes retribution,

Fa yashtafi wa yashfi hazazati qulubin naghilah

So that he may be healed and may heal the pains of rancorous hearts,

Wa hararati sudurin wa ghiratin wa hasarati anfusin tarihah

And the burning of breasts and anger, and the regrets of sorrowful souls,

Min dima’in masfukatin wa arhamin maqtū’atin wa ta’atin majhulah

Resulting from spilled blood, severed family ties, and neglected obedience.

Qad ahsanta ilayhil-bala’a wa wassa’ta ‘alayhil-ala’

You have tested him with a goodly trial, and expanded for him Your bounties,

Wa atmamta ‘alayhin-na’ma’a fi husnil-hifdhi minka lah

And completed for him the blessings through Your beautiful protection of him.

Allahumm-akfihi hawla ‘aduwwihi, wa ansihim dhikrah

O Allah, suffice him against the terror of his enemy, and make them forget his mention,

Wa arid man aradahu wa kid man kadah

And intend (against) whoever intends against him, and scheme against whoever schemes against him,

And outwit whoever tries to outwit him, and let the circle of evil fall upon them.

Then, to close, say this 100 times if you can:

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa ali Muhammadin wa 'ajjil farajahum.

"O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and hasten their relief."

After the Fajr prayer, recite this supplication of Imam Ali (a), from al-Sahifa al-Alawiyya:

Ilahi hadhihi salati sallaytuha la li-hajatin minka ilayha

My God, this is my prayer which I have offered, not because of any need You have for it,

Nor because of any desire You have for it, but only for Your glorification and obedience,

Wa ijabatan laka ila ma amartani bih

And in response to what You have commanded me to do.

Ilahi in kana fiha khalalun aw naqsun

My God, if there is any flaw or deficiency in it,

Min ruku’iha aw sujudiha

In its bowing or its prostration,

Fala tu’akhidhni wa tafaddal ‘alayya bil-qabuli wal-ghufran

Then do not hold me accountable, and favor me with acceptance and forgiveness,

Bi-rahmatika ya arhamar-rahimin

By Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Recite this ten times after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers, as Imam al-Sadiq (a) taught:

Astaghfirullahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem. '

"I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.

Bismillahir-rahmanir-rahim

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Amsaytu wa asbahtu billahi mu’mina

I have entered the evening and the morning as a believer in Allah,

‘Ala dini Muhammadin (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa alih) wa sunnatih

Upon the religion of Muhammad (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) and his Sunnah,

Wa ‘ala dini ‘Aliyyin (‘alayhis-salam) wa sunnatih

And upon the religion of Ali (peace be upon him) and his Sunnah,

Wa ‘ala dini Fatimata (‘alayhas-salam) wa sunnatiha

And upon the religion of Fatima (peace be upon her) and her Sunnah,

Wa ‘ala dinil-awsiya’i salawatullahi ‘alayhim wa sunnatihim

And upon the religion of the Successors (blessings of Allah be upon them) and their Sunnah.

Amantu bi-sirrihim wa ‘alaniyatihim

I believe in their secret and their manifest,

Wa bi-ghaybihim wa shahadatihim

And in their unseen and their witnessed.

Wa asta’idhu billahi fi laylati hadhihi wa yawmi hadha

And I seek refuge in Allah, in this night of mine and this day of mine,

Mimma-sta’adha minhu Muhammadun wa ‘Aliyyun wa Fatimatu wal-awsiya’

From whatever Muhammad, Ali, Fatima, and the Successors sought refuge,

Sallallahu ‘alayhim wa arghabu ilallahi fima raghibu fih

May Allah bless them; and I desire from Allah whatever they desired.

And there is no power nor strength except by Allah.

Imam al-Baqir (a) taught: in the morning, before looking at anything else, turn the stone of the agate ring on your right hand towards your palm, look at it, recite Surah al-Qadr and say:

"Amantu billahi waḥdahu lā sharīka lahū wa kafartu bil-jibt wa al-ṭāghūt, wa amantu bi-sirri āli Muḥammadin wa ʿalāniyatihim, wa ẓāhirihim wa bāṭinihim wa awwalihim wa ākhirihim.

I believe in Allah alone, with no partners, and I reject idols and false deities. I believe in the secrets and manifestations of the family of Muhammad, their outward and inward qualities, their beginning and their end

Recite these six verses every morning; Imam Ali (a) said whoever does is protected from any adversity:

"Say, ‘Nothing will befall us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is our Master, and in Allah let the faithful trust.'"(al-Tawbah, 9:51)

"And if Allah should touch you with affliction, none can remove it save He; and if He intends for you good, none can hold back His Bounty. He causes it to reach whomsoever He wills among His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful." (Yunus, 10:107)

"And there is no creature on earth but that its sustenance lies with Allah, and He knows its [enduring] abode and its temporary place of lodging. All is in a manifest Book."Hud, 11:6)

"And how many a creature bears not its own provision, yet God provides for it and for you? And He is the All-Hearing and All-Knowing."(al-'Ankabut, 29:60)

"Whatever mercy Allah unfolds for mankind, none shall withhold. And whatever he withholds, none shall release thereafter. And He is the Almighty, the Wise."(al-Fatir, 35:2)

"And were you to ask them, 'Who created the heavens and the earth?' They would surely say, 'Allah.' Say, ‘Then have you considered what you invoke besides Allah? Should Allah desire some harm for me, can they remove His Harm? Or, should He desire some mercy for me, can they withhold His Mercy?’ Say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me. In Him, let the trusting put their trust.’" (al-Zumar, 39:38)

After these verses, say:

"Say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god except Him. In Him, I put my trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne. I seek protection in Allah's Power and Strength from that of others, and I ask the intercession of the Lord of the Daybreak from the evil of what He has created. I seek refuge in what Allah wills; there is no power except with Allah, the Exalted, the Magnificent.'"

After the Fajr prayer, recite these verses of Surah al-Talaq (65:2–3) for a way out of a seemingly hopeless situation, especially a financial one:

wa maiyn yattaqil laaha yaj'al lahoo makhrajaa

Whoever is wary of Allah, He shall make for him a way out [of the adversities of the world and the Hereafter]

Wa yarzuqhu min haisu laa yahtasib;

and provide for him from whence he does not count upon.

wa many yatawakkal 'alal laahi fahuwa husbuh;

And whoever puts his trust in Allah, He will suffice him.

innal laaha baalighu amrih; qad ja'alal laahu likulli shai'in qadraa

Indeed Allah carries through His commands. Certainly, Allah has ordained a measure [and extent] for everything.
