## Origin

Imam Zayn al-Abidin, Ali ibn al-Husayn (a); recorded in Shaykh al-Tusi's Misbah al-Mutahajjid and Sayyid Ibn Tawus's Iqbal al-A'mal, and given among the acts of Sha'ban in Shaykh Abbas al-Qummi's Mafatih al-Jinan.

Recited daily at noon (zawal) through the month of Sha'ban, and on the night of the 15th of Sha'ban.

## Text

1. اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *allahumma salli \`ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin*\
   O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad;

2. شَجَرَةِ ٱلنُّبُوَّةِ\
   *shajarati alnnubuwwati*\
   the tree of Prophethood,

3. وَمَوضِعِ ٱلرِّسَالَةِ\
   *wa mawdi\`i alrrisalati*\
   the trustees of the (Divine) Mission,

4. وَمُخْتَلَفِ ٱلْمَلاَئِكَةِ\
   *wa mukhtalafi almala'ikati*\
   the frequently visited by the angels,

5. وَمَعْدِنِ ٱلْعِلْمِ\
   *wa ma\`dini al\`ilmi*\
   the core of knowledge,

6. وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِ ٱلْوَحْيِ\
   *wa ahli bayti alwahyi*\
   and the Household of the Divine Revelation.

7. اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *allahumma salli \`ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin*\
   O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

8. ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْجَارِيَةِ فِي ٱللُّجَجِ ٱلْغَامِرَةِ\
   *alfulki aljariyati fi allujaji alghamirati*\
   the sailing ships through the abysmal waves.

9. يَأْمَنُ مَنْ رَكِبَهَا\
   *ya'manu man rakibaha*\
   He who embarks on will be saved

10. وَيَغْرَقُ مَنْ تَرَكَهَا\
   *wa yaghraqu man tarakaha*\
   but he who abandons will be drowned.

11. ٱلْمُتَقَدِّمُ لَهُمْ مَارِقٌ\
   *almutaqaddimu lahum mariqun*\
   He who precedes them will miss the Right Path

12. وَٱلْمُتَأَخِّرُ عَنْهُمْ زَاهِقٌ\
   *walmuta'akhkhiru \`anhum zahiqun*\
   and he who misses them will lose,

13. وَٱللاَّزِمُ لَهُمْ لاَحِقٌ\
   *wallazimu lahum lahiqun*\
   but he who adheres to them will win.

14. اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *allahumma salli \`ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin*\
   O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

15. ٱلْكَهْفِ ٱلْحَصِينِ\
   *alkahfi alhasini*\
   the impregnable shelter,

16. وَغِيَاثِ ٱلْمُضْطَرِّ ٱلْمُسْتَكِينِ\
   *wa ghiyathi almudtarri almustakini*\
   the succorers of the helpless, distressed ones,

17. وَمَلْجَإِ ٱلْهَارِبِينَ\
   *wa malja'i alharibina*\
   the haven of the fugitives,

18. وَعِصْمَةِ ٱلْمُعْتَصِمِينَ\
   *wa \`ismati almu\`tasimina*\
   and the asylum of those who seek refuge.

19. اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *allahumma salli \`ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin*\
   O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

20. صَلاةً كَثِيرَةً تَكُونُ لَهُمْ رِضاً\
   *salatan kathiratan takunu lahum ridan*\
   so many blessings that please them

21. وَلِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ أَدَاءً وَقَضَاءً\
   *wa lihaqqi muhammadin wa ali muhammadin ada'an wa qada'an*\
   and settle all (our) duties towards Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

22. بِحَوْلٍ مِنْكَ وَقُوَّةٍ يَا رَبَّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ\
   *bihawlin minka wa quwwatin ya rabba al\`alamina*\
   by Your might and power, O Lord of the worlds!

23. اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *allahumma salli \`ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin*\
   O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

24. ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ ٱلأَبْرَارِ ٱلأَخْيَارِ\
   *alttayyibina al-abrari al-akhyari*\
   the pure, pious, and righteous

25. ٱلَّذِينَ أَوْجَبْتَ حُقُوقَهُمْ\
   *alladhina awjabta huquqahum*\
   whose rights have been made incumbent upon us by You

26. وَفَرَضْتَ طَاعَتَهُمْ وَوِلايَتَهُمْ\
   *wa faradta ta\`atahum wa wilayatahum*\
   and the obedience to whom and whose (divinely ordained) leadership have been (also) deemed obligatory upon us by You.

27. اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *allahumma salli \`ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin*\
   O Allah, (please do) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

28. وَٱعْمُرْ قَلْبِي بِطَاعَتِكَ\
   *wa\`mur qalbi bita\`atika*\
   fill my heart with obedience to You,

29. وَلاَ تُخْزِنِي بِمَعْصِيَتِكَ\
   *wa la tukhzini bima\`siyatika*\
   do not disgrace me due to my acts of disobedience to You,

30. وَٱرْزُقْنِي مُوَاسَاةَ مَنْ قَتَّرْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ\
   *warzuqni muwasata man qattarta \`alayhi min rizqika*\
   and grant me the feeling of sympathy towards those whom You have decided to straiten their sustenance

31. بِمَا وَسَّعْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ\
   *bima wassa\`ta \`alayya min fadlika*\
   for You have blessed me with affluence in livelihood

32. وَنَشَرْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ عَدْلِكَ\
   *wa nasharta \`alayya min \`adlika*\
   since You have displayed Your justice on me

33. وَأَحْيَيْتَنِي تَحْتَ ظِلِّكَ\
   *wa ahyaytani tahta zillika*\
   and bestowed life on me to live under Your shade.

34. وَهٰذَا شَهْرُ نَبِيِّكَ سَيِّدِ رُسُلِكَ\
   *wa hadha shahru nabiyyika sayyidi rusulika*\
   This is the month of Your Prophet and the Master of Your Messengers.

35. شَعْبَانُ ٱلَّذِي حَفَفْتَهُ مِنْكَ بِٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَٱلرِّضْوَانِ\
   *sha\`banu alladhi hafaftahu minka bilrrahmati walrridwani*\
   It is Sha\`ban, which You have encompassed with Your mercy and pleasure

36. ٱلَّذِي كَانَ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ\
   *alladhi kana rasulu allahi salla allahu \`alayhi wa alihi wa sallama*\
   and on which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his Household,

37. يَدْأَبُ فِي صِيَامِهِ وَقِيَامِهِ\
   *yad'abu fi siyamihi wa qiyamihi*\
   used to observe fasting painstakingly and used to spend it with acts of worship

38. فِي لَيَالِيهِ وَأَيَّامِهِ\
   *fi layalihi wa ayyamihi*\
   on all of its days and nights

39. بُخُوعاً لَكَ فِي إِكْرَامِهِ وَإِعْظَامِهِ\
   *bukhu\`an laka fi ikramihi wa i\`zamihi*\
   on account of Your honoring and dignifying this month,

40. إِلَىٰ مَحَلِّ حِمَامِهِ\
   *ila mahalli himamihi*\
   up to his death.

41. اَللَّهُمَّ فَأَعِنَّا عَلَىٰ ٱلإِسْتِنَانِ بِسُنَّتِهِ فِيهِ\
   *allahumma fa-a\`inna \`ala alistinani bisunnatihi fihi*\
   O Allah, (please do) help us follow the example of him (i.e. the Holy Prophet as regards the honoring of this month)

42. وَنَيْلِ ٱلشَّفَاعَةِ لَدَيْهِ\
   *wa nayli alshshafa\`ati ladayhi*\
   and help us attain his intercession for us.

43. اَللَّهُمَّ وَٱجْعَلْهُ لِي شَفِيعاً مُشَفَّعاً\
   *allahumma waj\`alhu li shafi\`an mushaffa\`an*\
   O Allah, (please do) decide him as my interceder (before You) whose intercession for me is acceptable

44. وَطَرِيقاً إِلَيْكَ مَهْيَعاً\
   *wa tariqan ilayka mahya\`an*\
   and as my clear path toward You,

45. وَٱجْعَلْنِي لَهُ مُتَّبِعاً\
   *waj\`alni lahu muttabi\`an*\
   and make me follow him

46. حَتَّىٰ أَلْقَاكَ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَامَةِ عَنِّي رَاضِياً\
   *hatta alqaka yawma alqiyamati \`anni radiyan*\
   until I meet You on the Resurrection Day in such a state that You are pleased with me

47. وَعَنْ ذُنُوبِي غَاضِياً\
   *wa \`an dhunubi ghadiyan*\
   having overlooked my sins

48. قَدْ أَوْجَبْتَ لِي مِنْكَ ٱلرَّحْمَةَ وَٱلرِّضْوَانَ\
   *qad awjabta li minka alrrahmata walrridwana*\
   and confer upon me with Your mercy and good pleasure

49. وَأَنْزَلْتَنِي دَارَ ٱلْقَرَارِ وَمَحَلِّ ٱلأَخْيَارِ\
   *wa anzaltani dara alqarari wa mahalla al-akhyari*\
   settling me in the Eternal Abode and the Place of the Righteous.
