   *Ilāhī aḥmaduka - wa-anta li-l-ḥamdi ahlun -*\
My God, I praise You — and You are worthy of praise —

for Your excellent work toward me, and the fullness of Your blessings upon me,

   *wa-jazīli ‘aṭā’ik ‘indī,*\
and Your plentiful gift with me,

   *wa-‘alā mā faḍḍaltanī min raḥmatik,*\
and for what You favored me with of Your mercy,

   *wa-asbaghta ‘alayya min ni‘matik,*\
and for what You perfected upon me of Your bounty.

   *Fa-qadi ṣṭana‘ta ‘indī mā ya‘jizu ‘anuhu shukrī, wa-lawlā iḥsānuka, ilayy*\
You have indeed done for me what my thanks are incapable of reaching, and were it not for Your benevolence toward me,

   *wa-subūghu na‘mā’ika ‘alayy*\
and the fullness of Your blessings upon me,

*mā balaghtu iḥrāza ḥaẓẓī, wa-lā iṣlāḥa nafsī,*\
I would not have attained the securing of my portion, nor the rectifying of my soul,

   *wa-lākinnaka btada’tanī bi-l-iḥsān,*\
But You initiated me with benevolence,

   *wa-razaqtanī fī umūrī kullihā l-kifāyah,*\
and You provided me with sufficiency in all my affairs,

   *wa-ṣarafta ‘annī jahda l-balā’,*\
and You turned away from me the burden of tribulation,

   *wa-mana‘ta minnī maḥdhūra l-qaḍā’*\
and You averted from me the feared decree.

*Ilāhī fa-kam min balā’in jāhidin qad ṣarafta ‘annī,*\
My God, how many an arduous tribulation You have turned away from me,

   *wa-kam min ni‘matin sābighatin aqrarta bihā ‘aynī,*\
and how many a full blessing You have delighted my eye with,

   *wa-kam min ṣanī‘atin karīmatin lak ‘indī.*\
and how many a noble favour You have with me.

   *Anta l-ladhī ajabta ‘inda l-iḍṭirāri da‘watī,*\
You are the One Who answered my prayer when I was in dire need,

   *wa-aqalta ‘inda l-‘ithāri zallatī,*\
and You overlooked my slip when I stumbled,

   *wa-akhadhta lī mina l-a‘dā’ bi-ẓulāmatī.*\
and You took my due from the enemies for my being wronged.

*Ilāhī mā wajadtuka bakhīlan ḥīna sa’altuk,*\
My God, I have not found You stingy when I asked You,

   *wa-lā munqabiḍan ḥīna aradtuk,*\
and not holding back when I desired You,

   *bal wajadtuka li-du‘ā’ī sāmi‘an, wa-li-maṭālibī mu‘ṭiyā,*\
Rather, I found You hearing my prayer, and granting my requests,

   *wa-wajadtu nu‘māka ‘alayya sābighah,*\
and I found Your bounty upon me full,

   *fī kulli sha’nin min sha’nī, wa-kulli zamānin min zamānī,*\
in every affair of mine, and every time of my time,

   *fa-anta ‘indī maḥmūd, wa-ṣanī‘uk ladayya mabrūr,*\
so You are praised by me, and Your work is approved by me.

   *taḥmaduk nafsī wa-lisānī wa-‘aqlī ḥamdan yablughu l-wafā’a wa-ḥaqīqata sh-shukr,*\
My soul, my tongue, and my intellect praise You with a praise that reaches fulfillment and the reality of thanks,

   *ḥamdan yakūnu mablagha riḍāk ‘annī,*\
a praise that is the extent of Your good pleasure with me.

*fa-najjinī min sakhaṭika yā kahfī ḥīna tu‘yīnī l-madhāhib,*\
So deliver me from Your displeasure, O my refuge when the paths weary me,

   *wa-yā muqīlī ‘athratī,*\
and O One Who overlooks my slip,

   *fa-lawlā satruk ‘awratī la-kuntu mina l-mafḍūḥīn,*\
for were it not for Your concealment of my fault, I would have been among the disgraced,

   *wa-yā mu’ayyadī bi-n-naṣr,*\
and O One Who strengthens me with help,

   *fa-lawlā naṣruk iyyāya la-kuntu mina l-maghlūbīn,*\
for were it not for Your helping me, I would have been among the overcome,

   *wa-yā man waḍa‘at lahu l-mulūku nīra l-madhallati ‘alā a‘nāqihā,*\
and O You for whom the kings have placed the yoke of humiliation upon their necks,

   *fa-hum min saṭawātihī khā’ifūn, wa-yā Ahl at-Taqwā,*\
so they are fearful of His assaults, and O You who are worthy of reverent fear (Taqwā),

   *wa-yā man lahu l-asmā’u l-ḥusnā as’aluka an ta‘fuwa ‘annī,*\
and O You to whom belong the Beautiful Names (al-Asmā’ al-Ḥusnā), I ask You to pardon me,

   *wa-taghfira lī fa-lastu barī’an fa-a‘tadhira,*\
and to forgive me, for I am not innocent, so that I may excuse myself,

   *wa-lā bi-dhī quwwatin fa-antaṣira,*\
nor am I possessed of strength, so that I may triumph,

   *wa-lā mafarra lī fa-afirra. Wa-astaqīluka ‘atharātī,*\
nor is there a way for me to escape, so that I may flee. And I ask You to overlook my slips,

   *wa-atanassalu ilayk min dhunūbī l-latī qad awbaqatnī,*\
and I disavow to You my sins that have surely ruined me,

   *wa-aḥāṭat bī fa-ahlakatnī,*\
and surrounded me so that they destroyed me.

   *minhā farartu ilayk Rabb tā’iban,*\
From them I have fled to You, Lord, repenting—

   *fa-tub ‘alayya muta‘awwidhan, fa-a‘idhnī mustajīran,*\
so accept my repentance; seeking refuge, so grant me refuge; seeking protection—

   *fa-lā takhdhulnī sā’ilan, fa-lā taḥrimnī mu‘taṣiman,*\
so do not forsake me; a petitioner, so do not deprive me; holding fast—

   *fa-lā tuslimnī dā‘iyan, fa-lā taruddanī khā’iban,*\
so do not abandon me; a caller, so do not turn me back disappointed.

   *da‘awtuka yā Rabb miskīnan, mustakīnan,*\
I called upon You, O Lord, as one destitute, humbled,

*mushfiqan, khā’ifan, wajilā, faqīran, muḍṭarran, ilayk*\
anxious, fearful, apprehensive, poor, compelled (to turn) to You—

*ashkū ilayk yā Ilāhī ḍa‘fa nafsī*\
I complain to You, O my God, of the weakness of my soul

   *‘ani l-musāra‘ati fīmā wa‘adtahū awliyā’ak,*\
to hasten to what You promised Your friends,

   *wa-l-mujānabati ‘ammā ḥadhdhartahū a‘dā’ak,*\
and to shun what You warned Your enemies against,

   *wa-kathrata humūmī wa-waswasata nafsī.*\
and the abundance of my worries and the whispering of my soul.

   *Ilāhī lam tafḍaḥnī bi-sarīratī,*\
My God, You have not disgraced me because of my hidden sin,

   *wa-lam tuhliknī bi-jarīratī, ad‘ūka fa-tujībunī*\
and You have not destroyed me because of my crime; I call You, and You answer me

   *wa-in kuntu baṭī’an ḥīna tad‘ūnī.*\
even though I am slow when You call me.

   *Wa-as’aluka kulla-mā shi’tu min ḥawā’ijī,*\
And I ask You for all that I wish of my needs,

   *wa-ḥaythu mā kuntu waḍa‘tu ‘indak sirrī,*\
and wherever I was, I placed my secret with You,

   *fa-lā ad‘ū siwāk, wa-lā arjū ghayrak,*\
so I do not call upon anyone other than You, nor do I hope for anyone other than You.

*Labbayk, labbayk, tasma‘u man shakā ilayk,*\
At Your service, at Your service! You hear the one who complains to You,

   *wa-talqā man tawakkala ‘alayk,*\
and You meet the one who relies on You,

   *wa-tukhalliṣu mani ‘taṣama bik,*\
and You deliver the one who holds fast to You,

   *wa-tufarrij ‘amman lādhā bik.*\
and You bring relief to the one who seeks shelter in You.

   *Ilāhī fa-lā taḥrimnī khayra l-ākhirati wa-l-ūlā li-qillati shukrī,*\
My God, do not deprive me of the good of the Hereafter and the first life (the world) because of the fewness of my thanks,

   *wa-ghfir lī mā ta‘lamu min dhunūbī,*\
and forgive me what You know of my sins.

   *in tu‘adhdhib fa-ana ẓ-ẓālim, al-mufarriṭ,*\
If You punish, then I am the wrongdoer, the negligent,

   *al-muḍayyi‘, al-āthim, al-muqaṣṣir, al-muḍji‘,*\
the waster, the sinner, the failing, the one lying down (in neglect),

   *al-mughfilu ḥaẓẓa nafsī,*\
the one heedless of his soul's portion,

   *wa-in taghfir fa-anta Arḥamu r-Rāḥimīn.*\
and if You forgive, then You are the Most Merciful of the merciful ones.
