## Origin

Mafatih al-Jinan, the section on Hajj and Umra rites, from Shaykh al-Tusi and al-Kaf'ami; the supplications are those narrated from the Imams (a) for each rite.

## Text

Each line gives the Arabic, then the transliteration in italics, then the English.

1. للَّهُمَّ نَوِّرْ بِالْعِلْمِ قَلْبِي\
   *Allahumma nawwir bil-'ilmi qalbi*\
   O Allah! Illuminate my heart with knowledge.

2. وَاسْتَعْمِلْ بِطَاعَتِكَ بَدَنِي\
   *was-ta'mil bi-ta'atika badani*\
   And employ my body in Your obedience.

3. وَخَلَّصْنِي مِنَ الْفِتَنِ\
   *wa khallisni minal-fitan*\
   And save me from trials and tribulations.

4. وَأَشْغِلْ بِالإِعْتِبَارِ فِكْرِي\
   *wa-shghil bil-i'tibari fikri*\
   And occupy my thoughts with reflection and learning from examples.

5. وَقِنِي شَرَّ وَسَاوِسِ اَلشَّيْطَانِ\
   *wa qini sharra wasawisish-shaytan*\
   And protect me from the evil whisperings of Satan.

6. وَاَجِرْنِي مِنْهُ یَا رَحْمَنُ\
   *wa ajirni minhu ya Rahman*\
   And grant me refuge from him, O Most Merciful.

7. بِالصَّالِحَاتِ اَعْمَالَنَا\
   *bis-salihati a'malana*\
   (And crown) our deeds with righteousness.

8. اَللَّهُمَّ اِنِّي أَوْدَعْتُ نَفْسِي فِي هَذَا المَحَلِّ الشَّرِيْفِ اِلىَ يَوْمِ الْقَيَامَةِ\
   *Allahumma inni awda'tu nafsi fi hadhal-mahallish-sharifi ila yawmil-qiyamah*\
   O Allah! I have deposited my soul in this noble place until the Day of Resurrection.

9. خَالِصاً مُخْلِصاً اَشْهَدُ اَن لاَ اِلَهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَأنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ\
   *khalisan mukhlisan ashadu an la ilaha illallahu wa anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh*\
   Purely and sincerely, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

10. اَللّٰهُمَّ مَنْ تَهَيَّأَ وَتَعَبَّأَ وَأَعَدَّ وَاسْتَعَدَّ لِوِفَادَةٍ إِلَى مَخْلُوقٍ\
   *Allāhumma man tahayya’a wata‘abba’a wa a‘adda wasta‘adda liwifādah ilā makhlūq*\
   O Allah, whoever prepares, toils, and readies himself to visit a creation,

11. رَجَاءَ رِفْدِهِ وَجَائِزَتِهِ وَنَوَافِلِهِ وَفَوَاضِلِهِ\
   *Rajā’a rifdihi wa jā'izatih wa nawāfilih wa fawāḍilih*\
   Hoping for his support, reward, supererogatory deeds, and blessings,

12. فَإِلَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدِي تَهْيِئَتِي وَتَعْبِئَتِي وَإِعْدَادِي وَاسْتِعْدَادِي\
   *Fa ilayka yā sayyidī tahyi'atī wata‘bi'atī wa i‘dādī wa isti‘dādī*\
   To You, O my Master, I entrust my preparation, filling, arrangement, and readiness,

13. رَجَاءَ رِفْدِكَ وَنَوَافِلِكَ وَجَائِزَتِكَ فَلَا تُخَيِّبِ الْيَوْمَ رَجَائِي\
   *Rajā’a rifdika wa nawāfilika wa jā'iztika fala tukhyib al-yawm rajā'ī*\
   Hoping for Your support, supererogations, and reward, so do not disappoint my hope today.

14. يَا مَنْ لَا يَخِيبُ عَلَيْهِ سَائِلٌ وَلَا تَنْقُصُهُ نَائِلٌ\
   *Yā man lā yakhīb ‘alayhi sā’ilun wa lā tanquṣu-hu nā’ilun*\
   O He from whom no supplicant is disappointed, nor is any receiver diminished,

15. فَإِنِّي لَمْ آتِكَ الْيَوْمَ بِعَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ قَدَّمْتُهُ\
   *Fa innī lam ātika al-yawma bi-‘amalin ṣāliḥin qaddamtuhu*\
   Indeed, I come to You today with no righteous deed that I have offered,

16. وَلَا شَفَاعَةِ مَخْلُوقٍ رَجَوْتُهُ\
   *Wa lā shafā‘at makhlūqin rajawtuhu*\
   Nor with the intercession of any creation whom I hoped for,

17. وَلَكِنْ أَتَيْتُكَ مُقِرًّا بِالظُّلْمِ وَالإِسَاءَةِ عَلَى نَفْسِي\
   *Wa lākin ataytuka muqirran bi-ẓ-ẓulmi wal-’isāh ‘alā nafsī*\
   But I have come to You acknowledging my injustice and harm against myself,

18. فَإِنَّهُ لَا حُجَّةَ لِي وَلَا عُذْرَ\
   *Fa innahu lā ḥujja lī wa lā ‘udhr*\
   For I have no proof nor excuse.

19. فَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا مَنْ هُوَ كَذَالِكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *Fa as’aluka yā man huwa kaffārun an tuṣallī ‘alā Muḥammadin wa āli Muḥammad*\
   I ask You, O He who forgives, to send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,

20. وَأَنْ تُعْطِينِي مَسْأَلَتِي وَتُقِيلَنِي عَثْرَتِي\
   *Wa an tu‘ṭīnī masʼalatī wa tuqīlani ‘athratī*\
   And to grant me my request and forgive my slip,

21. وَتَقْلِبَنِي بِرَغْبَتِي وَلَا تَرُدَّنِي مَجْبُوْهًا مَمْنُوْعًا وَلَا خَائِبًا\
   *Wa taqlibnī biraghbatī wa lā turuddanī majbūhan mamnū‘an wa lā khā’iban*\
   And to guide me by my desire, and do not return me disappointed, rejected, or prevented,

22. يَا عَظِيمُ يَا عَظِيمُ يَا عَظِيمُ أَرْجُوكَ لِلْعَظِيمِ\
   *Yā ‘Aẓīmu yā ‘Aẓīmu yā ‘Aẓīmu arjūka lil-‘aẓīm*\
   O Great, O Great, O Great, I hope from You the Great,

23. أَسْأَلُكَ يَا عَظِيمُ أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِيَ الذَّنْبَ الْعَظِيمَ\
   *As’aluka yā ‘Aẓīmu an taghfira lī adh-dhanba al-‘aẓīm*\
   I ask You, O Great One, to forgive me the great sin.

24. لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ\
   *Lā ilāha illā anta*\
   There is no deity but You.

25. أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلهَ إلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَریکَ لَهُ\
   I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, He is One and has no partner

26. وَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ\
   and the Muhammad is his servant and Messenger.

27. آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ وَ کَفَرْتُ بِالْجِبْتِ وَ الطّاغُوتِ\
   I believe in Allah and disbelieve in false gods,

28. وَ اللاّتِ وَ الْعُزّى وَ بِعِبادَةِ الشَّیْطانِ\
   Laat, Uzza and the worship of devils

29. وَ بِعِبادِةِ کُلِّ نِدٍّ یُدْعى مِنْ دُونِ اللهِ\
   and all those who call for worship other than Allah.

30. اَلْحَمْدُ لِلہِ الَّذِیْ ہَدَانَا لِہٰذَا\
   *alhamdullilahi-lazii hadana lihazaa*\
   All praise to Allah who has provided us this guidance,

31. وَ مَا کُنَّا لِنَہْتَدِیَ لَوْلاَ اَنْ ہَدَانَا اللّٰہُ\
   *wama kunna linahtadiya lawlaa an hadaanallahu*\
   for we would not otherwise have been guided.

32. سُبْحَانَ اللّٰہِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلہِ وَ\
   *subhanallahi walhamdulillahi*\
   Glory to Allah, all praise is due to Him,

33. لاَ اِلٰہَ اِلاَّ اللّٰہُ وَ اللّٰہُ اَکْبَرُ اَللّٰہُ اَکْبَرُ مِنْ خَلْقِہٖ\
   *walaailaha illalahu wallahu akber allahu akberu min khaqihi*\
   there is no God except Allah and Allah is Great. Allah is greater than His creatures.

34. وَ اللّٰہُ اَکْبَرُ مِمَّا اَخْشٰی وَ اَحْذَرُ لاَ اِلٰہَ اِلاَّ اللّٰہُ\
   *wallahu akberu mimma akhshaa waahzaru laailaha illallahu*\
   Allah is greater than whom I fear and beware. There is no God except Allah,

35. وَحْدَہٗ لاَ شَرِیْکَ لَہٗ لَہٗ الْمُلْکُ وَ لَہُ الْحَمْدُ\
   *wahdahu laa sharikalahu lahul mulku walahul hamdu*\
   He is One and without any partner. All land belong to Him and all praise is due to Him.

36. یُحْیِیْ وَ یُمِیْتُ وَ یُمِیْتُ وَ یُحْیِیْ وَ ہُوَ حَیٌّ لاَ یَمُوْتُ\
   *yuhyii wayumitu wayumitu wayuhyii wahuwa hayyu laa yamutu*\
   He grants life and ends it. He ends life and grants it. He is alive and never dies.

37. بِیَدِہِ الْخَیْرُ وَ ہُوَ عَلٰی کُلِّ شَیْئٍ قَدِیْرٌ\
   *biyadihil khairu wahuwa alaa kulli shaiin qadir.*\
   All good emanates from Him and has power over all things.

38. اَللّٰہُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ\
   *Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa aali Muhammad*\
   O Allah! Send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

39. وَ بَارِکْ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ آلِہٖ\
   *wa barik ‘ala Muhammadin wa aalihi*\
   And bestow Your favors upon Muhammad and his family.

40. کَاَفْضَلِ مَا صَلَّیْتَ وَ بَارَکْتَ وَ تَرَحَّمْتَ\
   *ka-afdali ma sallayta wa barakta wa tarahhamta*\
   As the best of what You have blessed, favored, and had mercy upon,

41. عَلٰی اِبْرَاہِیْمَ وَ آلِ اِبْرَاہِیْمَ اِنَّکَ حَمِیْدٌ مَجِیْدٌ\
   *‘ala Ibrahima wa aali Ibrahima innaka Hamidum Majid*\
   Abraham and the family of Abraham; surely You are the Most Praiseworthy, the Most Glorious.

42. وَ سَلاَمٌ عَلٰی جَمِیْعِ النَّبِیِّیْنَ وَ الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ\
   *wa salamun ‘ala jami‘in-nabiyyina wal-mursalin*\
   And peace be upon all the Prophets and the Messengers.

43. وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلہِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ\
   *wal-hamdu lillahi rabbil-‘alamin*\
   And all praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

44. اَللّٰہُمَّ اِنِّیْ اُؤمِنُ بِوَعْدِکَ وَ اُصَدِّقُ رُسُلَکَ\
   *Allahumma inni u'minu bi-wa‘dika wa usaddiqu rusulaka*\
   O Allah! Indeed I believe in Your promise and I testify to the truth of Your Messengers.

45. وَ اَتَّبِعُ کِتَابَکَ\
   *wa attabi‘u kitabaka*\
   And I follow Your Book (the Quran).

46. اَللّٰہُمَّ اَمَانَتِیْ اَدَّیْتُہَا وَ مِیْثَاقِیْ تَعَاہَدْتُہٗ\
   *Allahumma amanatii addaituha wamiisakii taahadtuhu*\
   O Allah! I have discharged the trust reposed with me and fulfilled my promise

47. لِتَشْہَدَ لِیْ بِالْمُوَافَاۃِ\
   *litashaada lii bilmuwaafati*\
   so that You can be witness of my fulfillment.

48. اَللّٰہُمَّ تَصْدِیْقًا بِکِتَابِکَ وَ عَلٰی سُنَّۃِ نَبِیِّکَ\
   *Allahumma tasdiqan bikitabika walaa sunati nabiyyika*\
   O Allah! I have brought faith in Your Book and the practices of Your Prophet

49. صَلَوَاتُکَ عَلَیْہِ وَ آلِہ\
   *salwatuka alaihi waalihi*\
   peace be upon him and his progeny

50. اَشْہَدُ اَنْ لاَ اِلٰہَ اِلاَّ اللّٰہُ وَحْدَہٗ لاَ شَرِیْکَ لَہٗ\
   *ashhadu an laa ilaha-illallahu wahdahu laa sharika lahu*\
   I bear witness that there is no God except Allah,

51. وَ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُہٗ وَ رَسُوْلُہٗ\
   *waashaadu anna muhammadan abduhu warasuluhu*\
   He is One and has no partner and that Muhammad is his servant and Messenger.

52. آمَنْتُ بِاللّٰہِ وَ کَفَرْتُ بِالْجِبْتِ وَ الطَّاغُوْتِ\
   *aamantu billahi wakafartu biljibti wattaghuti*\
   I have faith in Allah and disbelieve in false gods,

53. وَ اللاَّتِ وَ الْعُزّٰی وَ عِبَادَۃِ الشَّیْطَانِ\
   *wallaati waluzza waibadati-sshaitani*\
   Laat and Uzza, the worship of devils,

54. وَ عِبَادَۃِ کُلِّ نِدٍّ یُدْعٰی مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰہِ\
   *waibadati kulli niddin yudaa min dunillahi.*\
   and all those who call for worship other than Allah.

55. اَللّٰہُمَّ اِلَیْکَ بَسَطْتُ یَدِیْ وَ فِیْمَا عِنْدَکَ عَظُمَتْ\
   *Allahumma ilaika basattu yadii wafiima indaka azumat*\
   O Allah! I have extended my hands towards You and have great expectations from You.

56. رَغْبَتِیْ فَاقْبَلْ سُبْحَتِیْ وَ اغْفِرْ لِیْ وَ ارْحَمْنِیْ\
   *raghbatti faaqbal sabhatii waghfirlii warhamnii.*\
   Accept my endeavours, forgive me and shower mercy on me.

57. اَللّٰہُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَعُوْذُ بِکَ مِنَ الْکُفْرِ وَ الْفَقْرِ\
   *allahumma innii auzubika minal kufri walfaqri*\
   O Allah! I seek refuge from infidelity, poverty

58. وَ مَوَاقِفِ الْخِزْیِ فِی الدُّنْیَا وَ الآْخِرَۃِ\
   *wamawaaqifil khizyi fiduuniya walaakhirat.*\
   and disgrace in this world and in the Hereafter.
