## About

Mafatih al-Jinan records several practices recommended for one seeking the expansion of lawful sustenance (rizq halal). The Ahl al-Bayt (a) emphasised that rizq is in the hand of Allah alone, and that the means of drawing it down include istighfar, salawat, the recitation of Surah al-Waqi'ah, and specific supplications and adhkar. This amaal collects the most well-established of those practices.

## Steps (8)

### 1. Repent and Seek Forgiveness

*Instruction*

The Qur'an records the words of Prophet Nuh (a) to his people:

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا \* يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا \* وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ

'And I said: Seek forgiveness of your Lord; indeed He is Ever-Forgiving. He will send rain upon you in showers, and provide you with wealth and sons.' (Qur'an 71:10–12)

Make sincere tawbah (repentance) from sins, especially injustice in earnings, and resolve to seek only halal sustenance. The Holy Prophet (s) said: 'Sustenance is withheld from a servant by a sin he commits.'

### 2. Recite Istighfar 70 Times Daily

*Dhikr, repeat 70 times*

Recite the following daily, 70 times:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

Transliteration: 'Astaghfiru-Llaha Rabbi wa atubu ilayh.'

English: 'I seek the forgiveness of Allah, my Lord, and I repent to Him.'

The Holy Prophet (s) said: 'Whoever makes istighfar his constant practice, Allah will provide for him from where he does not expect, and grant him relief from every sorrow and a way out of every distress.'

### 3. Recite Surah al-Waqi'ah Each Night

*Quran*

Recite Surah al-Waqi'ah (Chapter 56) every night before sleeping. The Holy Prophet (s) said: 'Whoever recites Surah al-Waqi'ah every night will never be afflicted by poverty.'

If time is constrained, the surah may be recited in part on busy nights, but the consistency (every night) is the key promised condition.

### 4. Recite Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Qadr, and al-Tawhid Combinations

*Quran, optional*

Mafatih al-Jinan further recommends, for the seeker of sustenance:\
• Surah al-Ikhlas (qul huwa Allahu ahad) — recited abundantly\
• Surah al-Qadr (inna anzalnahu) — recited after Fajr\
• Surah al-Inshirah (alam nashrah laka sadrak) — for relief from constraint

A particularly emphasised practice: recite Surah al-Qadr seven times after the Fajr prayer; sustenance and protection are widened for the day.

### 5. Recite the 'Ya Razzaq' Invocation After Salat al-Subh

*Dhikr, repeat 100 times*

After the Fajr (Subh) prayer, recite:

يَا رَزَّاقُ ارْزُقْنِي

Transliteration: 'Ya Razzaqu-rzuqni.'

English: 'O Bestower of sustenance — grant me sustenance.'

Recite this 100 times. 'Ya Razzaq' is one of the names of Allah by which He has bound Himself to provide for His servants.

Or recite the longer form attributed to Imam al-Sadiq (a):

English: 'O Allah, O Bestower of sustenance, O Strong, O Mighty, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and provide me from Your vast bounty with sustenance lawful and wholesome.'

### 6. Recite Salawat for Sustenance

*Dhikr, repeat 100 times*

Recite abundantly the salawat upon Muhammad and his Household. Imam al-Sadiq (a) said: 'There is nothing heavier on the scale than the salawat upon Muhammad and his family, and there is nothing more effective in drawing down rizq.'

'Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa aali Muhammad' — 100 times daily, especially between the Maghrib and 'Isha prayers.

### 7. Maintain Ties of Kinship and Give Charity Daily

*Instruction*

Two practical means of widening rizq are emphasised throughout the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (a):

\1. Silat al-Rahim (maintaining ties of kinship): Imam al-Sadiq (a) said: 'Maintaining the ties of kinship lengthens the lifespan and increases sustenance.'

\2. Sadaqah (charity): The Holy Prophet (s) said: 'Bring down sustenance by means of charity.' Even a small amount given each morning, with the intention of seeking rizq from Allah, is recommended.

### 8. Recite the Dua for Increase of Sustenance

*Dua*

Recite the following dua, narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (a):

اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي رِزْقًا وَاسِعًا حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ كَدٍّ، وَاسْتَجِبْ دَعْوَتِي مِنْ غَيْرِ رَدٍّ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْفَضِيحَتَيْنِ يَا كَرِيمُ.

Transliteration: 'Allahumma-rzuqni rizqan wasi'an halalan tayyiban min ghayri kaddin, wa-stajib da'wati min ghayri raddin, wa a'udhu bika min al-fadihatayni ya Karim.'

English: 'O Allah, provide me with abundant sustenance, lawful and wholesome, without toil; answer my supplication without rejection; and I seek refuge with You from the two disgraces (poverty in this life and the Fire in the next), O Most Generous.'

Recite this once daily, after the Fajr prayer or after the recitation of Surah al-Waqi'ah at night.
